How to Cancel Spotify Premium (2026) — Every Billing Route
Spotify Premium can only be cancelled in a browser. There is no cancel button inside the mobile app, which is the single most common reason people give up and keep paying.
Your account does not disappear when you cancel. It reverts to the free tier at the end of the paid period, and your playlists, saved albums and followers all stay exactly where they are.
There is no cancel button anywhere in the Spotify app, on any platform. If you are looking there, you will not find it — open a browser.
Cancel Spotify step by step
- Open spotify.com/account/subscription/manage in a browser and log in.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Confirm. The page should then show the date your Premium access ends.
- If you subscribed through the App Store, Spotify cannot cancel it for you.
- Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Spotify, then Cancel Subscription.
- If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel there.
- Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions, choose Spotify, then Cancel subscription.
Common questions
Do I lose my playlists?
No. Your account survives and keeps every playlist, saved album, podcast and follower. You move to the free tier, which means ads and some mobile restrictions, but nothing you made is deleted.
Why is there no cancel option in the app?
Spotify deliberately keeps subscription management on the web. No amount of digging through the mobile app will find it — open a browser instead.
What happens to my downloads?
Offline downloads stop working when Premium ends and are removed from the device. If you rely on offline listening, use it until the paid period runs out.
When does Premium actually end?
At the end of the period you have already paid for. The account page shows the date, and you keep full Premium until then.
Do I get a refund for unused time?
No. Spotify does not refund subscription payments — its policy is that you cancel and keep what you paid for until the billing period ends. Two things it will point you elsewhere for: retail gift cards, which go back to the shop, and subscriptions billed by a partner such as a mobile operator, which that partner handles.
What happens to a Family or Duo plan?
Cancelling as the plan owner ends Premium for every member on it. Individual members can leave the plan instead, which drops only them to free.
Can I cancel a free trial without being charged?
Yes, as long as you cancel before the trial's last day, and no payment is taken. One catch worth knowing: on a free trial that cost you nothing up front, cancelling drops the account to the free tier immediately rather than at the end of the trial. If you want the remaining trial days, cancel on the last one.
Will my account be deleted?
No. Cancelling only ends Premium. Deleting the account is a separate request and is permanent — it removes your playlists too.
Why am I still being charged after cancelling?
Usually a second subscription. If you originally signed up through Apple or Google and later also on the web, cancelling one leaves the other running.
Can I keep Premium features until the end and still resubscribe later?
Yes. Access runs to the end of the paid period, and resubscribing later reactivates Premium on the same account with your library intact.
Spotify hid its cancel button. It is not the only one.
Notice what just happened: a subscription you actively wanted to end took a browser, an account page and three clicks, because the app it lives in has no cancel option at all. That is normal. Most services do a version of it, and the ones that make it hardest are the ones you are least likely to get round to.
Subzy keeps the direct cancel link beside every subscription you track, so the next one takes seconds instead of a search. It also shows what you are paying in total each month, which for most people is the part they have never actually added up.
