How to Cancel PlayStation Plus (2026) — Turn Off Auto-Renew

PlayStation Plus does not use the word cancel. You switch off automatic renewal, and the membership then simply runs out at the end of the period you have paid for. That is the whole process, and it is why people often think they failed to cancel.

The bigger consideration is what you lose. Monthly games only stay playable while a membership is active, and cloud saves become inaccessible — so back anything important up to a USB drive before the end date.

There is no Cancel button — you turn OFF automatic renewal. The wording confuses people into thinking it did not work, but switching auto-renew off is the cancellation.

Common questions

Why is there no cancel button?

Sony uses auto-renewal rather than cancellation. Turning auto-renew off is the equivalent — the membership expires at the end of the paid period and is not charged again.

Do I keep the monthly games I claimed?

Only while a membership is active. Claimed games return to a locked state when the membership lapses and become playable again if you resubscribe — you do not lose the entitlement, just access.

What happens to my cloud saves?

They stay stored for around six months after the membership lapses but are inaccessible in the meantime. Copy anything important to a USB drive or local storage before your end date rather than relying on that window.

Do I keep games from the Game Catalog?

No. Catalogue titles are included with the tier rather than owned, so they leave when the membership ends. Games you bought outright are unaffected.

Can I get a refund?

Better than most. Within 14 days of purchase you get a full refund if you have not used the service at all. If you have — played online, used cloud saves, claimed a monthly game — Sony still prorates a refund based on the days left, rather than refusing outright. Refunds take 30 to 60 days to arrive.

What happens to online multiplayer?

Most online multiplayer requires an active membership and stops working when it lapses. Free-to-play titles usually continue to work without it.

I have stacked several years of membership. What happens?

Turning off auto-renew keeps every day you have already paid for. The expiry date shown is the end of the full stacked period, not the current month.

Does this delete my PSN account?

No. Your PSN account, purchases, trophies and friends list all stay. Only the Plus membership ends.

Can I downgrade instead of cancelling?

Yes. Moving from Premium or Extra down to Essential keeps online play at a lower price, which is often what people actually want.

Will I lose my trophies or progress?

No. Trophies and local save data are unaffected. Only cloud saves and membership-included games are gated behind an active subscription.

A subscription that never says cancel is easy to leave running.

PlayStation Plus renews quietly, often annually, and the interface never uses the word cancel — so there is no moment that prompts you to reconsider. Twelve months later the charge arrives and the decision has already been made for you.

Subzy exists for exactly that pattern: a warning a few days before each renewal, one running total across everything, and the cancel link kept beside each subscription so acting on it takes seconds.
