How to Cancel Apple Music (2026) — And Keep Your Library

Apple Music is cancelled from your Apple Account subscriptions, the same place as every other Apple service.

The important distinction is ownership. Purchased tracks stay; streamed catalogue additions do not, even the ones you downloaded for offline use. Your playlists survive but any catalogue songs inside them stop playing.

Songs you BOUGHT from iTunes stay yours forever. Anything added from the Apple Music catalogue disappears when the subscription ends, including downloads — the two look identical in your library until then.

Common questions

Do I lose my playlists?

The playlists remain, but any track added from the Apple Music catalogue stops playing. Playlists made from purchased or uploaded music still work fully.

What happens to songs I bought from iTunes?

You keep them permanently. Purchases are unaffected by the subscription ending.

What about my downloads?

Catalogue downloads are removed when the subscription ends. They were licensed, not owned.

What happens to my uploaded music library?

Music you uploaded through iCloud Music Library becomes unavailable once the subscription lapses, so make sure you still have local copies before cancelling.

Do I get a refund?

No automatic refund for unused time, though Apple sometimes refunds a recent accidental renewal via reportaproblem.apple.com.

Does this cancel Apple One?

If Apple Music is part of Apple One, it cannot be cancelled on its own — you change or cancel the whole bundle.

Will my Replay and listening history be kept?

History stays with your Apple Account and returns if you resubscribe, though Replay statistics stop being generated.

When does access end?

At the end of the current billing period, shown in the Subscriptions screen.

Can I cancel a student plan the same way?

Yes, identical route. Student plans also expire automatically once verification lapses.

If I resubscribe, does everything come back?

Catalogue additions and downloads return with the same playlists intact, provided the account is the same one.

Half your library was rented and it looked the same as the half you owned.

That is the honest lesson of cancelling Apple Music: subscriptions blur the line between having something and paying to keep having it, and nothing in the interface marks which is which until the payment stops.

Subzy is the ledger for the rented half — everything you pay for, with the renewal dates, in one total. No bank login, and free for the first five.
